Kineski je jedan od najstarijih svetskih jezika sa istorijom dugom više hiljada godina i najstariji je jezik koji je još uvek u upotrebi. Takođe spada i među najrasprostranjenije svetske jezike sa više od 1.3 milijarde maternjih govornika i jedan je od 6 zvaničnih jezika Ujedinjenih Nacija. Zbog svoje drevne tradicije, neobičnog pisma, tonova i bogatstva jezičkog izraza smatra se jednim od najlepših, ali i najtežih svetskih jezika.
